P.A.S.C. takes rules infractions and lack of sportsmanship very seriously.

We exist solely for the "love of the game".

It is paramount that all players maintain a healthy respect for the rules, referees and their fellow players.

After all, it is the "Gentleman's" sport.

You are accountable for knowing the rules.

Ignorance will not = justification  !!!

PASC Adult Six-A-Side Rules

Games will be governed by F.I.F.A. law, with the following modifications:

Law 1 Field of Play

1) Field dimensions are 60 yards long by 40 yards wide

2) Penalty areas are 10 yards wide and extend 8 yards from the goal line

3) Goal dimensions are 12’ wide and 6’ high

Law 3 Players and Substitutions

1)   All players must appear on the team roster in order to participate in PASC sanctioned games. Players not appearing on the team roster

must be cleared through a PASC board member before participating.

2)     No team can play with less than four (4) players on the field (including goalkeeper). (A player serving a penalty for a yellow card shall be considered on the field for the purpose of counting number of players- i.e. if the team is at four players and a player is cautioned, the team may play with three (3) players on the field for the duration of the penalty.) Ejection or lack of attendance which reduces the number of players to less than four will result in a forfeit. (PASC will not reschedule the game for a later date.) A team can pick up PASC registered players (from their division only) to achieve six (6) players. No additional subs will be allowed. If a team member shows up late, the sub player must exit the game immediately. If this rule is broken for any reason, the match shall be forfeited. Also, if a substitute player scores a goal, it shall not count. Play will restart with a goal kick.

3)    Substitutions can be made “on the fly” during play. The player being replaced must leave the field before the substitute enters. A player may exit the field from any point, but entry must occur at the halfway line. Any blatant disregard of this rule that results in an odd man advantage or preventing a breakaway will be treated as unsporting behavior.

Law 4 Player Equipment

Shin guards are mandatory. The top of the shin guard must be covered by the sock. A player discovered not to be wearing shin guards will be required to leave the field and secure proper protection. The team may not substitute for the player until the next stoppage of play. The player may not reenter the field until they have established with the referee that the problem has been corrected.

Law 7 Duration of Game and Length of Period

A game shall consist of two (2) 25 minute halves. There shall be a 5 minute break between halves. There will be no overtime during the regular season. During tournament play, one 5 minute “golden goal” overtime period will be played if the score is tied at the end of regulation. If there is no score at the end of the overtime period, the teams shall proceed to penalty kicks. Teams will alternate the taking of kicks. The game is ended when one team makes and the other team does not. All eligible players must kick (including goalkeeper) before a player can take a second kick. A team with more eligible players may reduce its number of players to equate with its opponent.

Law 10 Scoring

An attacking player must touch the ball after it crosses the halfway line for any offensive goal to count. If a goal is scored by the attacking team from the defending side of the halfway line having not touched a teammate on the attacking side of the halfway line, the goal shall not count and play will restart with a goal kick. Further, the goalkeeper may not punt or throw the ball across the halfway line without the ball touching the ground or a player (from either team) prior to it crossing the halfway line. An indirect free kick shall be awarded at the spot where the ball crossed the halfway line.

Law 11 Offside

There is no offside in the six-a-side format.

Law 12 Fouls and Misconduct

1)       Slide tackling will not be allowed. This tactic is considered to be too dangerous and the rule is a precaution for the safety of all players.

Violations of this rule will be treated as unsporting behavior. (An exception is made for the goalkeeper when inside their own penalty

       area.)

2)       Fighting will not be permitted. Players involved are subject to immediate dismissal from the league.

3)    The goalkeeper may handle the ball when receiving it directly from a throw-in by a teammate. The goalkeeper may not handle a ball deliberately kicked to him by a teammate. Play will be restarted by an indirect free kick at the spot where the goalkeeper handled the ball.

4)     A cautioned player (yellow card) shall immediately leave the playing field and be penalized for two (2) minutes. During this time the team will play shorthanded. (The penalty does not end before two minutes if the other team scores.) If the player, while serving the penalty, receives a second caution, the player shall be ejected and not replaced; the team will play short for the duration of the match.

Law 13 Free Kicks

Opposing players shall be at least five (5) yards from the ball until the kick is taken.

Law 14 Penalty Kicks

A penalty kick shall be awarded when a foul which would result in a direct free kick occurs within the offending team’s penalty area. The kick shall be taken at the top of the penalty area eight (8) yds from goal. All players except the kicker and the opposing goalkeeper shall be within the field of play but outside the penalty area and five (5) yards from and behind the ball until it is kicked.

Law 16 Goal Kicks

A goal kick shall be taken within one yard from the goal line and inside the penalty area. (A goal kick may cross the halfway line before touching another player.)

Card System

Yellow Card= 1 point

Red Card = 2 points

A player receiving a red card will be suspended for the next game at a minimum; depending on the seriousness of the infraction, the number of games suspended may be more

A player receiving 2 yellow cards in a three game period will cause a  player to be suspended for the next game.

A player receiving 5 points in a season will be suspended for the remainder of the season.

It is suggested for all teams to “self police” any problem situations in a game. By having a mutual respect for your team members as well as the opposing team members and the referees, you are ensured to have a safe and “red card” free game. Any players that are issued a red card or a yellow card and fail to comply with the referees order to leave the game will result in that team forfeiting the match. As a team you must take the responsibility for you teammates actions.
